Scent work, or K9 Nose Work, is a dog sport where dogs use their superior sense of smell to find specific target odors hidden in various environments. Developed to give companion dogs the joy and mental stimulation derived from professional detection work, it builds confidence, provides physical and mental exercise, and strengthens the bond between dog and handler. Dogs start by finding a cocktail of scents in a box, then advance to searching for these specific essential oils, in complex environments, ultimately leading to skilled work in areas like containers, buried, interior and exterior or even in identifying the scent of their own handler.
